Lets us say you have just download a new album or game but all the files are .xxx and you need them to be

zip's, rar's, mp3's etc.....

then do the following

1. create a new folder
2. put all the files needing editing in the new folder
3. then goto "run" in the start menu
4. type in CMD and click ok
   

The next thing needs a few bits of old dos commands
You need to navigate cmd to the folder where the files are
You can do this by 1st getting the total address of the folder
And then typing it in cmd with a "cd

cd c:\xxx\yyy\ccc\

Once you are at the folder make sure you have the correct folder by typing dir to see a list of files in that folder

Now type in....

Rename *.* *.zip

Now change the zip to what ever the extension needs to be (.rar, .mp3 ect)

all done

you should have now changed the .* to what ever you needed

Install Xp From Dos

If XP will not install from the CD or if you have a new drive with no operating system on
it yet try these:

Install Windows XP from the hard drive with Windows 98 already installed:

Boot Windows 98
Insert the XP CD into your CD reader
Explore Windows XP through My Computer
Copy i386 folder to C:\
Go into C:\i386 folder and double click on winnt32.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive

Install Windows XP from DOS (ie. no OS on a new hard drive):

Boot with a Windows 98 Start Up disk
Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD reader
Run smartdrv.exe from the Win98 directory on the windows 98 CD (file caching)
Type cd.. to back up to the root directory
Insert Windows XP CD into the CD reader
Copy the i386 folder to C:\
Go into C:\i386 folder on C: and type winnt.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive.

You can change windows "My Documents" folder path to Any where you want. Just right-click on it and go to properties, you can change the location where you want windows to save your Documents folder....

XP uses the C:\Program Files directory as the default base directory into which new programs are installed. However, you can change the default installation drive and/ or directory by using a Registry hack.

Run the Registry Editor (regedit)and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Look for the value named ProgramFilesDir. by default,this value will be C:\Program Files. Edit the value to any valid drive or folder and XP will use that new location as the default installation directory for new programs.

Steps:

3. Open it in notepad
4. Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.sitenameyouwantblocked.com , and that site will no longer be accessable.

To restrict a users logon hours , use the net user command. These commands are used from the Command Prompt. (Start - RUN - and type cmd)

this command would convert your d: drive to ntfs.

if the system cannot lock the drive, you will be prompted to convert it during next reboot.

Normally you should select yes.

Conversion from fat/fat32 to ntfs is non-destructive, your data on the drive will NOT be lost.

Be aware that converting to ntfs will make that partition of your

Open Control Panel
Click on Preformance and Maintenance.
Click on System.
Then click on the Advanced tab
Click on the error reporting button on the bottom of the windows.
Select Disable error reporting.

Remove the My Documents Folder from the Start menu

If you do not want to display My Documents on the Start menu, follow these steps:

3. Click the Advanced tab.

Restore the My Documents Folder to Its Default Location

Set Default Folder view to list

1. Open a folder
2. Click the View menu
3. Select the type of view you want (large, small, details, list, etc.)
4. Click the View menu again
5. Select Arrange Icons
6. Select the type of arrange and if you want Auto Arrange
7. Look at your folder view. This will be the folder view that you are going to set as your default folder view if you continue. If you are not happy, continue to adjust the methods of viewing and arranging. Then continue.

8. Click Folder Options
9. Click View tab
10. Click Apply to All Folders
